The parents have eaten sour grapes and the children's teeth are set on edge.
The title refers to the bitter legacy of the parents/grandparents in West Papua - the generation who 'voted' to be part of Indonesia in the 1960's. The grandchildren, wounded and wanting justice, continue the struggle.
Yet another work which I have done on the West Papuan theme which didn't get short listed in a competition. I understand that there are mysterious vagaries in these art prizes, and that my work may not be as 'good' as the short-listed, but I am beginning to think that these people don't want to take on the issue, which would be disappointing in the art world where risk, prophetic statement, and controversy has been its trademark.
